Bio

Bill Livermore grew up in Los Angeles, U.S.A. He became a small businessman who also worked for the then U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate Robert Kennedy. Bill was active in the civil rights movement in the 1960s and read Silent Spring, the book by Rachel Carson which began his commitment to the environment and alerted him to the signs around him traffic congestion and pollution was poisoning his region.

It was the building of the nuclear power plant in California on an earthquake fault line that drove him to the Gold coast in 1986 for its promised quality of life, its clean air and open spaces. However, he became aware that the Gold Coast was going the same way as Los Angeles with development rampant, and his quality of life eroding with it. So he became politically active once more. He ran for council in 1994, for state in 1998 in Beaudesert, and again for state in 2004 in Albert.

Urban issues

The booming population here combined with a lack of infrastructure is a political hot potato. All levels of government are shifting the blame.

Farming industry

Bill is passionate about the land. Protecting farmers from globalisation and the proposed free trade agreements is essential, but the major parties seem unable to act. Farmers have no cause to fear the Greens. The Queensland Greens really do want the farming industry to become sustainable and viable in the long term.

Climate change

Climate change is emerging as a major issue in Albert due to the fact that many areas will be underwater in serious floods. It's time to consider the long-term consequences of our actions.

Voluntary Euthanasia

Bill believes passionately that people deserve the right to die with dignity when they are terminally ill.

Bill's favourite quote is: "If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way".
