The Greens are calling for Queensland women to have a voice in Parliament, something they currently believe to be absent.

The Greens candidate for Southport, Carla Brandon, pointed out that while most political parties only pre-select women candidates in about 30% of electorates, the Greens will be fielding more women than men on the Gold Coast in the State Election on September the 9th.

Women candidates have been selected by the Greens in Albert (Marella Pettinato), Broadwater (Julie-Ann Teluk), Currumbin (Inge Light), Robina (Lara Pape) and Southport (Carla Brandon).

“This shows that the Greens are the only party serious about getting the gender balance right in Parliament and the only party that can be taken seriously on women’s issues” said Ms Brandon.
