Green candidates in the upcoming State Election have called for Daylight Saving to be introduced into the South East corner of Queensland.
“Apart from the obvious benefits of not being in a different time zone from our neighbours in Tweed Heads and northern New South Wales, there are energy benefits as well†said Mudgeeraba Greens candidate Gary Pead.
"Perhaps most important advantage would be the possible extra outdoor family time that parents would have to engage in outdoor activities with their kids after work, benefiting family life and reinforcing the government’s health strategy against childhood obesity.
All businesses will be advantaged as many Gold Coast businesses are missing out on 12.5% of each working day when they pick up the phone at 4.00 o’clock to find that businesses in NSW are already closed, ‘Time is money’ in these circumstances†he said.
“The Cockcroaches catchcry was always that Qld was 100 years behind in everything and an hour and a hundred years in Summer. The Greens call on The SMART STATE to at least catch up an hour with daylight saving and vote for the Greens to catch up the hundred years."
