Rampant development must stop

The Greens have accused the Labor and Coalition Parties of putting revenue before the interests of the Gold Coast community.

According to the Greens Candidate for Surfers Paradise, Dean Hepburn, The high rate of development and low rate of new infrastructure on the Gold Coast has brought great suffering to the whole Gold Coast community.

'The major parties have willingly taken huge amounts of money from developers and the Gold Coast community but have not delivered adequate services with it' he said.

'Our health services, water supplies and transport system cannot cope and the other parties would have us believe that more development will enable them to provide the services. That's a lie. They will always be well behind and they don't care' .

Mr. Hepburn, a health care worker and consulting environmental scientist said "The Greens believe that we should be using every possible measure to slow development until our health, water and transport systems have had a chance to catch up. We shouldn't make matters worse by permitting huge subdivisions'.

'The Greens policy on development means much more scrutiny and public input into development decisions. We also plan to overhaul the legislation which governs development throughout Queensland'.

Mr. Hepburn, 33, has previously contested the seat of Surfers Paradise where he helped end the political career of former Premier Rob Borbidge.
