When the buses don't show up

I try to do the right thing. Use public transport. Leave the car at home. But why don't buses always show up? I normally try and get to the train station by walking or jogging. But a few of weeks ago I injured my foot and have been a regular bus user ever since. In the last three weeks there have been three occasions when the scheduled bus has not shown up.

The Beattie government wants us to use more public transport because our region is struggling under the weight of poorly planned development. I invite my fellow Gaven candidates, Alex Douglas and Phil Gray, to hop on the 20A with me one day so we can discuss what needs to be done to fix public transport on the Coast.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, let me know which bus, when and where (or if you have any other P.T. war stories) and I will take the information to Translink.

Glen, My bus regularly

Glen,

My bus regularly doesn't show up, or it is so late that I miss the train. There are many frustrated people on my bus and it often spills over into agressive behaviour to the bus driver. Often I have found that the buses that are late are the ones where they have a trainee driver on (in the middle of rush time, who had that bright idea!) who is not familiar with the bus, ticket machine or route.

I've recently taken to taking a car pool to work 4 days per week, not as environmentally friendly (we have a full car though - so I don't feel so bad) but at least I can rely on it and I can guarantee a seat. A journey to Brisbane that can take 1hr 30mins by bus/train is 45min-1hr by car pool. What a crying shame that this the case.

Steve

ps. I did a count of cars the other day on my way into work. Out of my straw poll of 30 cars, only 4 had more than 1 person in. Of those 4 none of them had more than 2. Our car was the only car I saw the whole way to Brisbane that was full!
